This gem's magical presence is hard to capture in a photograph.  Shifting colors of violet and pink have been cast under a spell of hazy moon-glow, to form one of the coolest tiny gems we've had the pleasure of guarding. 

This gem is a spinel - a natural gem that for centuries had been confused for ruby or sapphire.  In fact, many of the fine "rubies" in royal crown jewels are actually spinel.  Today, spinel is a hot, popular gem and has recently been awarded the distinction of being a second birthstone for the month of August.

This spinel weighs .38 carats and has been fashioned into a trilliant shape.  It's the perfect gem for a fun petite ring or a simple pendant, with a tiny diamond accent.
